NICK SWEET

NICK SWEET

I was born and brought up in Bristol and studied English Lit at Cardiff University, before going on to study to become a teacher in London, where I lived for a number of years. I have moved about a fair bit, having also lived and taught in Barcelona, Bilbao, Seville, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi and Brighton; and I am currently living with my wife and family in Malaga. My first book, Gemini Games, is a non-genre novel, and it was praised by D.M. Thomas, Andrew O'Hagan and D.J. Taylor. I have recently published two crime thrillers, Flowers At Midnight and Switch. US crime writer called me "a rising star in crime fiction" after reading Flowers, and many readers who enjoyed reading my crime thrillers have contacted me wanting to know when the next one will be out. Well, the next novel I am going to have published is Young Hearts, which is a love story set against the backdrop of World War One. Young Hearts should be out in early December of this year, and I am working hard on two more crime thrillers, which I expect to have published in the not to distant future. To read more about me, visit my website at: www.nicksweet.co.uk or follow me on Twitter (@nickissweeter)

Also note that my second novel “Young Hearts” to be published by Club Lighthouse Publishing will be published before Christmas 2012, and the following are quotes by others who have already reviewed a preliminary release:

'I like Nick Sweet´s writing, which is always deeply engaged with the subjects he chooses, intelligent in its approach and seriously interested in the difficulties of ordinary people trying to live their lives in the shadow great events….' D.J. Taylor (author of an acclaimed biography of George Orwell, Derby Day and Ask Alice) on Young Hearts

'Nick Sweet writes with all the innocence and passion of his characters during the difficult and often horrific uncertain times of the First World War, when a group of university friends must find themselves and come to terms with all the heartbreak and emotion of that turbulent time. A thoroughly good read.'…..

Kit Domino, author of Every Step of the Way

I have also published two other crime novels which received critical acclaim, the first being;

FLOWERS AT MIDNIGHT

"Flowers at Midnight is a gem that shines bright in the often-crowded genres of mystery and suspense. Nick Sweet has created a page-turner you will not want to put down… Nick Sweet is a rising star in crime fiction." --Gary C. King, author of BLOOD LUST and DRIVEN TO KILL.

"Kinky sex, blackmail, murder, three million pounds and a gay psychoanalyst thwart Sir Alex Bolton's desire to be England's next Prime Minister. DCI Preston enters the fray in this fast paced, tell-all, London caper that will have readers turning pages and looking over their shoulder as Nick Sweet delivers FLOWERS AT MIDNIGHT." --Vincent Lardo, New York Times best-selling author of THE HAMPTON AFFAIR (published as DEATH BY DROWNING in the UK) and the McNALLY series.

‘The summer deluge enabled me to read Flowers At Midnight at one sitting… With a good plot and mix of diabolical characters driving the story along, on a tsunami of pitch perfect gritty dialogue, the story races to a nail biting dénouement where nothing is quite as it seems… Flowers will keep you guessing to the last page.’ --Roger Busby, ex-crime reporter & author of The Hunter, Crackshot, High Jump and numerous other crime novels.

'A startling and intriguing crime story.' Quentin Bates author of Frozen Assets, Frozen Out and Cold Comfort

“Nick Sweet's new novel sets a blistering pace with a firecracker plot and machine gun dialogue. If you like your crime fiction fast and furious and as murderous as Macbeth then this one is for you .” Rod Madocks, author of No Way To Say Goodbye

"This toxic mix of seedy underworld and political sleaze is a must for fans of Noir Britannia!" Martin Daley author of The Casebook of Inspector Armstrong Volume I, and Fourth, First & Fulham

And the second one being;

GEMINI GAMES in 2005

'Explores the same territory as Michael Winterbottom's film, Wonderland. I was very impressed by the sympathy and integrity of the writing.' D.J. Taylor (author of an acclaimed biography of George Orwell, Derby Day and Ask Alice)

...manages to get under the skin of his various characters.'… The Western Daily Press

´A novel that's both serious and funny. A mordant look at the state of Britain today.´…D.M. Thomas (author of Penguin classic, The White Hotel)

I very much enjoyed the London-ness of [Gemini Games]... Good stuff; there are too few accurate London novels.'… Andrew O’Hagan (author of Personality, Be Near Me & The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog, and of His Friend Marilyn Monroe)
